Update 4/29/21I just returned from desert trip. my two 2.5 gallon containers now work like I want them to. By leaving the vent caps halfway unthreaded, there was none of the bloating, oilcanning, shrinking. The cans are secured to a shelf on,the back of the vehicle, left out in the daylight and there were 40degree temperature swings, up to near 90 degrees. When it came time to deploy them, the cans emptied rapidly, no glug glug glug. So yes, I’m satisfied.Maybe I’ll show a photo sometime of my filler tube system, since all modern cans are (see below) designed to thwart you from using on a vehicle, making an extension nozzle necessary. Hint: nominal 3/4″ bendable copper plumbing pipe will go into the filler neck of your vehicle. Shape a short piece to fit your situation so the free end winds up vertical. ( I have van) A household plastic funnel inserted in free end will now let you stand upright, uncontorted and comfortable while you dispense the can into the funnel.#####Okay, first up, these are much better than the little plastic snap things you can get. And the “kit” is complete with everything you need to install them. But here’s why I can’t give it my highest regard:1. As others have pointed out, these are just standard automotive type tire air valve bodies without the valve core (fwiw, you CAN put a valve core in…I played with that myself but it defeats the purpose) . They added some washers, but these are not used the original purpose. So if like me, you want to leave your filled can out in the sun and not have it expand grossly, YOU have to remember to crack open the cap and YOU have to remember to close it when needed.2. An attempt to improve the product with the addition of a little plastic lanyard was well intended, but that now effectively shortens even more the amount of thread available to put the cap on and…it leaks because it can’t be screwed down tight enough. I installed these on a common popular brand, the wall thickness is much less than the advertised 4mm maximum. Thus they leak. My hack solution was to undo the part so I could just ziptie the lanyard to the handle (see photo). I may try to shorten the cap but I was too annoyed and just stopped there.3. Despite some users with strong (politically based) feelings about “gub-mint” regulations interfering with their personal liberty ( to achieve self immolation I guess) I recognize the reason cans DON’T come with vents is SAFETY. I have an acquaintance whose upper body is 75% scar tissue from using a gas can improperly. Ask him.So yes, the new safety cans with safety fillers are slow. And here I am, adding vents.4. Part of the safety features required of new cans is a device inside the main opening to thwart flames entering the can (when unsafely using it) so you’re on your own getting that thing out of the way when you are installing the vents. I found I could get mine out with care and reinstalled when the vent was in place. Don’t just leave this safety feature off. Or do it and enjoy your liberty.5. In summary. Yes, these can work, but be aware of the consequences of your decisionsWhat really is needed is an automatic vent that responds to atmospheric/temperature caused pressure changes. They exist, but who is up for a $100 gas can?Be careful.

These are far more functional than other types of vents installed after throwing out your government mandated spouts. They are a bit tricky to install and you really need to do it on a can which is empty. Not so much for a potential fire, but because you cannot avoid dropping plastic fragments in the can when drilling the hole. They work well, but be sure to find a flat spot so the o-rings can seal.

I got a 6 pack and installed them on all of my gas cans. Everything that you need to install them comes in the package. What used to seem to take for ever to pour 6 gallens of fule in my tractor now takes me only a minute or two.

Most of the vents did not leak at all, One can vent has a slight leak which most likely was my error. it’s full of gas so i will have to wait until the can is empty to take it out to examine it.

They were a little tricky to install but I liked the fact that the screw on caps are secured with a strap so they won’t get lost or fall off .

First there is one other alternative I have used, a tire valve stem, with a valve cap but you have to chase down a proper drill and piece of wire. There are youtube videos on this. These “magicfour fuel” caps are complete with everything you need. Only drill empty plastic containers. I was concerned about the plastic debris going inside the tank but the drill when slowly drilled expels the plastic up and out of the hole. The only problem is when the drill starts to go through the plastic and it will draw the drill down into the container watch out for this or have someone hold the container while you hold the drill. Otherwise follow the directions. Bend the wire so it has about a 1/4 inch bend in it, slide the metal air vent with it’s “o” ring on it and make a curve in the wire, then fish it in the drilled opening. This can be difficult but keep at it. Hold the metal vent so it does not slide off the wire into the container. Once you get it through the drilled hole, pull the wire with the vent/o ring on it into the hole so the vent sticks out. HOLD the wire and then slide the second O ring, then metal cupped washer, then nut on the wire. Hold the wire firmly while sliding the o ring washer and start the nut. Once it is started you can tighten it by hand then fish that wire out of the container going backwards out the big container opening. Use the small wrench to tighten firmly but not too tight as you can distort the o ring enough to have it unseat and distort out of the ring shape. You will see it sticking out under the metal washer oddly. loosen it if it is distorted and reseat it. You are good to go then. Don’t forget to put the metal valve cap on the container. Will this be totally safe if the container is upturned, I don’t know but suspect is would leak, I would always favor and be careful when moving these vented containers. I spill less fuel by using this air vent then with the stock spouts that now come with the containers now. I used the “scepter spouts” as they are longer and I can tip the whole container aligning the spout with the fill on a vehicle or equipment without spilling much. Oh btw you can leave the cap on the container until everything is lined up then open the vent to speed up the fill. Be careful as a full five gallon container can be difficult to hold and unscrew the air vent cap. Sometimes a finger over the vent opening helps to slow down the dispensing if needed. Just adding this vent while keeping the supplied spout is better than and with out a vent. Good luck and be careful fueling.

A little tricky to install. The drill bit is slightly large in my opinion but it doesn’t leak.

The bigger yellow ones destroy your gas bottle when they rot, this one is small enough and leaves room for future repair, will buy again and again !
