   Snow Joe has been a reliable company in product performance. This item is a better ice scraper than ice breaker for northern climates with long, tough winters. That is the crux. The design dilemma is making one tool for everyone’s needs. Handling more ice is far different from handling more snow. A good ice scraper will be a lot cheaper and take up a fraction of the space of this item. Therefore, it only makes sense if it delivers as an ice breaker. And that will be contingent upon how hard and thick YOUR ice is. There are limits, therefore there need to be limits to our expectations. Compromises were inevitable since the engineering solution is probably offering at least two model levels. It appears that option was not feasible for the manufacturer.The less severe your winter temperatures are and the thinner the ice is will help this tool’s performance. And even then different people in the same place could find it more or less difficult to use in breaking up the thinner ice. Snow Joe has produced the first or possibly the last version of this design. It is testing the market with a new product with new features. It has tried to capture the largest audience possible while maintaining a street price under $20. IMO, America’s many climate zones exceeds this design, materials and probably its manufacturing costs. However, it is a relatively small population that resides in the most severe winter conditions–but their demands will be the most demanding. Their needs could be better served by a further iteration for an additional $10 – $15 that uses teeth and blades strong enough to deal with thicker ice without scratching the glass if such a material is economically feasible. Economy of scale is harder in a smaller market share but perhaps This product has less competition than the ubiquitous snow scrapers. Consumers are price conscious. Snow Joe has calculated that there will be more than enough customers living in areas with less extreme ice conditions for this first version to perform successfully. You may be in that significant sized group.What we all get regardless of our specific conditions is a design that helps you use both arms to bear down on the ice which will be a welcome improvement for many folks. The unavoidable trade off is having to accommodate its shape and size. Some folks are going to find the trade-off worth it.However, the larger your windshield is the more difficult it will be for you to reach all of it using this item. And I have not tested out its windshield wiper function. It sounds promising but I have no experience with it to share.Anywhere there is snow you can use Snow Joe’s other snow cleaning tools. I can’t confidently generalize the same for this specialized ice scraper and breaker regarding ice. But I do not know of a better tool to recommend that you probably do not already own. I hope its next version will be more robust for my area’s conditions. For some of you, perhaps most of you, this first version might already be everything you need now.

   I love these and have been a repeat customer. They just work really well compared to plastic, way less work. Because the brass is soft (by design) you may have to straighten it out a little bit after a hard ice but I’ve found a couple mallet hits on a level surface and it’s as good as new. I keep one in each of my vehicles.

   I googled top scrapers on google and this scraper came up. It is fantastic. I’ve used it twice on frosted windows. It cuts through the frost really fast and efficiently. It’s a bit light but, for me I like something a little lighter to hold. The price is very good.

   The blade doesn’t meet flush with the glass and the blade needs to be sharper like my last one.
